Notes:
Repudiating Zeus, Prometheus brings the gift of fire and the victuals of oblation to humanity. People are endowed with free will and agency. They have control over their actions. They can produce and feast. But now the champion of the gods is furious. Zeus castigates Prometheus for disloyalty, incarcerating him in eternity, continually devouring him. Zeus also turns his fury to humans, and sends Pandora. Her urn refutes the libertarians and undermines the purported notion of self-determination. In a world of cause and effect, there can be only deterministic outcomes, and the idea of moral responsibility for actions is nonsensical. The compatibilist account in particular, asserting that freedom to do otherwise is not required for moral responsibility, is contemptible. Prometheus intervenes once more, now with an oracle. Necessity encompasses knowability, which itself encompasses infinity and eternity. The urn is not a reformatory; the flames are not hellfire. These are tools of exploration, of learning.
